BB&T names Brown president of bank

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., Aug. 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- BB&T Corporation (NYSE: BBT) today named Ricky K. Brown as president, Branch Banking and Trust Company Inc. Brown succeeds Rob Greene, who had been president since the BB&T merger of equals with Southern National in 1995 and recently retired. The announcement is effective immediately.

Brown was named to BB&T's executive team in 2004. Since that time he has served as president, Community Banking, BB&T Corporation and will continue in this role.

"I am pleased the board is recognizing Ricky's superior leadership and 37 years of outstanding performance with this well-deserved promotion," said Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Kelly S. King.  

After joining BB&T in 1977, Brown served as a business services officer in New Bern, N.C., and Morehead City, N.C.; corporate banker in Wilmington, N.C.; city executive in New Bern and Winston-Salem, N.C.; regional president of BB&T Charlotte Metro Region (N.C.); and group president of the Washington, D.C. Metro Region.

A native of Robersonville, N.C., Brown earned his bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a graduate of School of Banking of the South, Louisiana State University, and Wharton Executive Development Program.

Brown currently serves on the board of the North Carolina Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Financial Services Roundtable.
