NEWPORT NEWS, Va., March 18, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE:HII) and its president and CEO, Mike Petters, received the Reserve Officers Association's 2015 Nathan Hale Corporate Patriot Award. The award was presented at the ROA STARS Foundation Gala on Tuesday at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C.
The Nathan Hale Corporate Patriot Award is presented to a corporation and its senior leadership committed to serving the nation, military veterans and military reservists. This year's award was presented to both HII and Johnson & Johnson.
"I am honored to accept the Nathan Hale Corporate Patriot Award on behalf of all the veterans at HII," Petters said. "They certainly deserve our support, and our men and women in the Reserve doubly so because they are serving the company and their country simultaneously. As a former Reservist, I know you are sometimes called out at a moment's notice, so at HII we strive to provide the support these employees need."
Petters served five years in the U.S. Naval Reserve after serving aboard the submarine USS George Bancroft. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1982.
HII employs more than 6,200 veterans and Reserve component service members in 26 states, Puerto Rico and Japan. Last month, HII's Ingalls Shipbuilding division was awarded the ProPatria Award for National Guard and Reserve support by the Employer Support of the National Guard and Reserve (ESGR).
