2015 Pierre Péladeau Bursaries - $100,000 to support young entrepreneurs

MONTREAL, May 7, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - For the 17th consecutive year, Quebecor is proud to lend a hand to up-and-coming businesses by awarding the Pierre Péladeau Bursaries to a fine crop of promising young Québec entrepreneurs. The three Pierre Péladeau Bursaries, worth a total of $100,000, support business startups by Québec university students.

Recipients of 2015 Pierre Péladeau Bursaries

Ingenious solution for recharging electric vehicles at home, at less cost
David Corbeil of Université du Québec à Montréal and Marie-Pier Corbeil of Concordia University have been awarded the First Pierre Péladeau Bursary, worth $50,000, to help them start up their business, Recharge Véhicule Électrique (RVE). With their partners, they have developed a load-shedding system for home charging stations for electric vehicles.

Personal genetic profiles to prevent disease and support effective treatment
Étienne Crevier of Université de Montréal, Matthew Starek and Michel Cameron have been awarded the Second Pierre Péladeau Bursary, worth $30,000, to help them develop BiogeniQ, a company that produces personal genetic profiles that can be used to support preventive treatment in different areas, such as pharmacology, nutrition or cardiology.

Biomechanical modelling for young hockey players
Simon Laurendeau, Léandre Gagné Lemieux, Maxime Provencher and Mathieu Germain Robitaille, all from Université Laval, have been awarded the Third Pierre Péladeau Bursary, worth $20,000, to help them expand their company, SciencePerfo. They have developed a biomechanical analysis device to help optimize the performance of young hockey players.

The Pierre Péladeau Bursaries were created to support business start-ups. Students enrolled at all Québec universities are eligible. Each year, bursaries are awarded to the best three projects submitted to an independent jury. Since their inception in 1999, the Pierre Péladeau Bursaries have distributed a total of $1.5 million to more than 60 young entrepreneurs, including this year's winners.

  • Érik Péladeau, President and CEO, Groupe Lelys
