PG&E and NCLR Powerful Forces in Fight for Equality

PG&E Contributes $250,000 to Leading LGBT Advocacy Organization
as Part of its Commitment to Diversity

As part of its long-standing commitment to equality in the workplace and the communities it serves, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) today announced a $250,000 contribution to the San Francisco-based National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR). This contribution comes on the heels of the Supreme Court’s landmark marriage equality decision, and will provide thousands of LGBT individuals with continued resources and counsel.

“Diversity and building a culture of inclusion have long been top priorities for PG&E and we’re honored to support the National Center for Lesbian Rights and its work to advance equality,” said PG&E President Chris Johns.

This contribution builds on PG&E’s more than three-decade commitment to diversity within the company and across its supply chain. PG&E launched the nation’s first LGBT employee resource group 30 years ago, was the first utility to actively recruit LGBT-owned enterprises in its supplier diversity program and was the first major company in to support the California “No on 8” Campaign in 2008.

“PG&E has been our powerful and long-term partner in the fight for equality. We are thrilled to have them by our side as we continue to advocate for the LGBT community. The Supreme Court’s decision marks a huge step forward for LGBT people and their families, but discrimination persists and legal barriers remain, so we will continue to work tirelessly on behalf of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people across the country,” said Kate Kendell, executive director of NCLR.

PG&E joins fellow corporate leaders and NCLR representatives at San Francisco’s Pride Parade Sunday, June 28, marching alongside people from around the world to declare their support for equality.

The National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR) has been advancing the civil and human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people and their families through litigation, legislation, policy, and public education since it was founded in 1977. The NCLR is based in San Francisco.
