Company pledges $20,000 to help military families during deployments
Sam’s Club will open its newly relocated club at 4385 Venetucci Blvd. in
Fountain Thursday, Aug. 6 following an 8 a.m. grand opening ceremony.
The new club sits next to a brand new Walmart Supercenter which recently
opened two weeks ago.
As part of the grand opening celebration, the company will present a
$20,000 donation to The
Home Front Cares. The nonprofit organization based in Colorado
Springs provides emergency support to families of those deployed
overseas. The Home Front Cares provides monetary assistance to families
of deployed servicemen and women with emergency needs such as helping
pay rent and utility bills.
“Everyone in this area knows someone serving in the military,” said
Sam’s Club Manager Lyza Smith. “We should always be there to assist the
families of those deployed.”
“Our company was founded by a veteran and we have a long standing
tradition of supporting our military,” said Walmart Store Manager Judy
Gomez Zimmerman. “We feel fortunate to be able to help those who’ve done
so much to protect our freedoms.”
Grand opening ceremony to feature local officials, special events
Fountain Mayor Gabriel Ortega and members of the Fountain Valley Chamber
of Commerce will be among those in attendance at Thursday’s grand
opening ceremony. The Ft. Carson Mounted Color Guard will present
colors. National anthem to be performed by Rachel and Logan Johnson,
children of our very own Sam’s Club member, Brian Johnson.
Sam’s Club will also showcase a variety of food samples and product
demonstrations. The club pharmacy which is open to the public will be
offering free grand opening health screenings which will assess
cholesterol, blood pressure, vision, hearing and a variety of other
wellness areas. The health screenings will be available Thursday from 9
a.m. to 3 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Committed to Veterans and their Careers
Sam’s Club believes in supporting the men and women who serve our
country. That’s why, along with parent company Walmart, the company
launched its Welcome Home initiative in 2013. This program guarantees a
job offer to any eligible U.S. veteran honorably discharged from active
duty. In just two years, more than 92,000 veterans have been hired, many
within their first 12 months off active service. The company expects to
hire 250,000 veterans by Memorial Day 2020.
