Sallie Mae Awards Georgia Resident $1,000 for College Through Monthly Plan for College Sweepstakes

SLM

Aspiring Engineer Halimah Hassan is a Student at Grantham University

Sallie Mae, the nation’s saving, planning, and paying for college company, today announced Halimah Hassan of Avondale Estates, Ga., is the latest winner of the Sallie Mae $1,000 Plan for CollegeSM Sweepstakes. Ms. Hassan, a Dean’s List student at Grantham University and mother of an eight-year-old daughter, is studying to be an electronic technology engineer. Ms. Hassan registered for Sallie Mae’s free Scholarship Search to become eligible for the sweepstakes.

“I am so grateful to Sallie Mae for their scholarship database and college planning calculators that have helped me manage the costs of school,” said Ms. Hassan. “Winning this sweepstakes means so much to me because of what education means to me and my family. College means financial freedom, a career, and providing my daughter with opportunity.”

In addition to Ms. Hassan, the following students received $1,000 for college in 2015 through Sallie Mae’s $1,000 Plan for College Sweepstakes:

  • Justine Niquette, Nashua, N.H.
  • Tiffany Robinson, Round Rock, Texas
  • Claire Tobias, Garland, Texas
  • Tehya Merritt, Panama City Beach, Fla.
  • Alex Foley, Ludlow, Mass.

“We know those who plan are better prepared to meet the cost of college and our goal through this sweepstakes is to provide additional motivation to help families make college happen,” said Martha Holler, senior vice president, Sallie Mae. “Tools like our College Planning CalculatorSM and Scholarship Search can make a major difference for students and families when it comes to choosing a college and financing their education.”

Sallie Mae recommends the 1-2-3 approach to paying for college: first, start with money you won’t have to repay by maximizing scholarships and grants; second, explore federal student loans by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid; and third, consider a responsible private education loan to fill the financing gap.
