Quebecor presents 44th annual Festival du nouveau cinéma

Canada NewsWire

MONTRÉAL, Sept. 29, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - Quebecor is proud to support the Festival du nouveau cinéma (FNC) for the 7th consecutive year as the presenting sponsor. From October 7 to 18, the FNC will offer Québec movie buffs a rich and diverse program of more than 360 films from near and far. In addition to providing financial support, Quebecor is backing the FNC with a large-scale promotional campaign in its media outlets.

"Our contribution to the FNC reflects our strong commitment to cinema," said Pierre Dion, President and CEO of Quebecor. "Supporting the dissemination of movies from the past and present and helping to bring cinematic works to the widest possible audience are core components of our social and philanthropic efforts. Being associated with the FNC, a contemporary, outward-looking festival that gives us an opportunity to discover unique and audacious works, is a source of immense pride to Quebecor. Hats off to the FNC for putting together such a diverse line-up of films. I wish all festival-goers an enriching cinematic experience!"

Quebecor is also honoured to be the presenter of the Louve d'Or prize, which will be awarded to the best film in the International Competition by a jury of professionals at the end of the festival, and to grant the Quebecor Bursary, which helps a deserving director pursue his or her craft. Several Quebecor subsidiaries are also making a contribution to the festival, including Videotron, which will be the FNC's official telecommunications provider, and MAtv, which will present the Prix Créativité in the Court-Métrage Focus section, also accompanied by a purse.

Quebecor also helps bring movies to the people by supporting the World Film Festival (WFF) and the Festival du Cinéma de la Ville de Québec (FCVQ). It has created Éléphant: The memory of Québec cinema, a large-scale philanthropic project to restore and digitally remaster in HD Québec's entire heritage of feature films and make it accessible. As well, Éléphant has launched Éléphant ClassiQ, Canada's first festival devoted to digitized and restored classic films from around the world. Éléphant ClassiQ will run from November 19 to 22, 2015.
