For the 8th Consecutive Year, Human Rights Campaign Foundation Names Sun
Life Financial U.S. a Best Place to Work for LGBT Workplace Equality
WELLESLEY, MA, Dec. 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ - The U.S. business group of Sun Life
Financial announced that it once again earned top marks on the
Corporate Equality Index (CEI), a national benchmarking tool on
corporate policies and practices related to lesbian, gay, bisexual,
transgender (LGBT) workplace equality, administered by the Human Rights
Campaign Foundation. This is the eighth consecutive year that Sun Life
Financial received CEI recognition as one of the organization's "Best
Places to Work for LGBT Equality" in the U.S.
The CEI evaluates LGBT-related policies and practices including
non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits,
transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs, and
public engagement with the LGBT community. In 2016, achieving a 100%
score on the CEI also required fully inclusive employee policies across
operations worldwide, as well as new non-discrimination criteria
relating to the use of contractors and charitable giving. By fulfilling
these higher standards, Sun Life joined the ranks of more than 400 U.S.
businesses that together are advancing diversity in the workplace.
"It is encouraging that a record number of companies across the U.S.
have stepped up their game when it comes to workplace inclusion, and
Sun Life is extremely proud to be among those corporate leaders," said
Emily Schur, Vice President, Human Resources, Sun Life Financial U.S.
"We not only have a strong company-driven diversity agenda, we also
have active employee involvement through our Inclusion Networks. We
look for every opportunity to reinforce that Sun Life's healthy,
balanced culture and business success require an absolute commitment to
equality."
The Human Rights Campaign Foundation is the educational arm of America's
largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay,
bisexual and transgender equality. HRC envisions a world where LGBT
people are embraced as full members of society at home, at work and in
every community. For more information on the 2016 Corporate Equality
