Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) is expected to ship just
9.8 million iPads in the first quarter of 2016, marking its lowest quarterly level ever
DigiTimes noted that the expected iPad shipments marks a 39.1
percent quarterly decrease and nearly 20 percent year-over-year decrease. However, Apple isn't the lone company to see a drop in
tablet shipments as an estimated 46.65 million tablets will be shipped globally in the first quarter - a decrease of 28.6 percent
from last quarter and 8.6 million from a year ago.
Despite a drop in shipments, Apple is expected to maintain its leadership status and account for 21 percent of global shipments.
Samsung Electronics will account for 14 percent of shipments, following by Lenovo at 7.2 percent
and Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) at 5.8
percent.
Shares of Apple were trading lower by 0.25 percent at $96.40 Wednesday morning.
