IDC sees Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT)'s Windows OS gaining traction in the tablet segment by the end of the current
decade. The research organization expects global tablet market to rebound in 2018 as "Windows opens door for growth" and
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL)'s "iPads come out
of a slump."
IDC expects Microsoft Windows OS in tablet to reach a market share of 19.3 percent in 2020 compared to 8.6 percent achieved in
2015. For the current year, its share is expected to reach 11.3 percent. In the same period, Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:
GOOG) (NASDAQ: GOOGL)'s Android market share will drop to 57.8 percent from 67.4 percent in last
year. For the year 2016, Android's share is predicted to fall to 66.2 percent.
Apple's iOS market share is likely to slacken to 22.9 percent in 2020 from 23.9 percent achieved in 2015. However, the OS share
would improve from the predicted level of 22.4 percent in the current year.

The research firm sees the tablet market continue to witness a drop in the remainder period of the current year to record 11.5
percent fall and shipments of 183.4 million units. Research Director Jean Philippe Bouchard commented, "We see smaller slate
tablets being offered at very aggressive price points, leaving little room for revenues outside of a pure volume or platform play
like for Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN)
for instance."
