Food Lion Feeds Donates More than 70,000 Meals to Jump-Start Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive in the Carolinas, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia

Grocer Adds North Carolina and South Carolina to Campaign

Food Lion Feeds has partnered with the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), the United States Postal Service (USPS) and food banks in Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, the District of Columbia, North Carolina and South Carolina to support the 25th Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. Throughout the week, Food Lion will help kick off the drive in each state by donating more than 70,000 meals total to local feeding agencies in these states. This is the first year that Food Lion has added both North Carolina and South Carolina households into its annual Stamp Out for Hunger efforts.

“As a grocer working to combat hunger, we know there are families in our communities who are making tough choices to put food on their tables," said Christy Phillips-Brown, External Communications and Community Relations Director for Food Lion. "That's why we are so thankful for hunger-relief campaigns like Stamp Out Hunger that helps us to collect and deliver food to those families that need it the most. We could not do this without help from the National Association of Letter Carriers and the United States Postal Service."

“Too many people in this country are going hungry," NALC President Fredric Rolando added. "We know this to be true because we see it as we deliver to every address in America at least 6 days a week."

In an effort to help raise awareness about Stamp Out Hunger on Saturday, May 13, Food Lion has partnered with local food banks to make donations to jump-start the annual campaign. The dates and times include:

  • Monday, May 8: Newark Post Office at 4 p.m. in Newark, Del.
  • Tuesday, May 9: Maryland Food Bank at 9 a.m. in Baltimore, Md.
  • Tuesday, May 9: Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina at 10 a.m. in Charlotte, N.C.
  • Tuesday May 9: Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina at 10 a.m. in Greenville, N.C.
  • Wednesday, May 10: Feeding America Southwest Virginia at 10 a.m. in Roanoke, Va.
  • Wednesday, May 10: Harvest Hope Food Bank at 10 a.m. in Columbia, S.C.
  • Thursday, May 11: Feedmore at 1 p.m. in Richmond, Va.
  • Thursday, May 11: Lowcountry Food Bank at 10 a.m. in Charleston, S.C.

In addition to donating more than 70,000 meals, Food Lion has also provided more than 10 million specially-marked Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive grocery bags to residents in the Carolinas, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia, for residents to place their donations in for USPS pickup on Saturday, May 13. The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive comes at an important time for local food banks and feeding agencies in these states, when demand peaks in the summer months as children are out of school.

The food collected from local resident donations during the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive will be distributed to local feeding agencies in these six regions.

Food Lion partners with local food banks and feeding agencies to help raise awareness about the issue of hunger and help end hunger in its local communities. Through Food Lion Feeds, the grocer has committed to providing 500 million meals to individuals and families in need by the end of 2020.
