Team Red, White & Blue kicks off 2nd Annual Eagle Charge Race

Presenting sponsor, Walmart, joins race in celebration of July 4

Registration is now open for the 2nd Annual Eagle Charge, a virtual event organized by Team Red, White & Blue (Team RWB) where thousands of veterans and supporters gather in different locations around the nation to run or walk four or seven miles. Over 200 communities across the country will bring people together through the Eagle Charge to encourage the physical and mental wellbeing of veterans and their supporters through recreation and sport from July 1-July 9.

As active duty military transition to civilian life, some struggle with reintegration. They miss the camaraderie and solidarity they had with their platoon, crew, or unit. Team RWB works to foster fellowship by creating bridges between transitioning military and their communities through regular fitness activities, social gatherings, and community service events, like the Eagle Charge.

Walmart returns this year as the presenting sponsor of the Eagle Charge. As a long-time supporter of Team RWB and veteran reintegration, Walmart has a deep history with the military community having been founded by Sam Walton who served as a U.S. Army Captain during World War II. In May 2013, the company announced its Veterans Welcome Home Commitment pledging to hire 250,000 veterans by 2020. To date, Walmart has hired more than 170,000 veterans and promoted more than 22,000 to jobs of greater responsibility.

“We see value in the leadership and entrepreneurship a military career can provide a company and a community. Supporting our veterans as they transition from active duty to civilian life is key to their overall well-being,” states David Hoke, senior director of associate health and well-being for Walmart. “Team RWB does an outstanding job bridging the gap between those who have served and the communities in which they live. We proudly support the work they do and are honored to be part of the Eagle Charge.”

“The Eagle Charge is an amazing opportunity to reach veterans and civilians throughout the country as they run, walk, ruck or even stroll together while celebrating Independence Day,” said Brandon Young, Director of Development for Team RWB. “Veterans cannot reintegrate in isolation. There is tremendous power in human connection and through this collaboration with Walmart in 2017 and 2018 we will be creating thousands of opportunities for veterans and communities to connect in positive, healthy ways as they incorporate the Eagle Charge into their existing July 4th traditions.”

Team RWB offers local, consistent and inclusive programming designed to bring civilians, veterans and active duty service members together through sport, recreation, fitness and social activities. The Eagle Charge is one example of this inclusive programming. To register, visit donate.teamrwb.org/eaglecharge.
