SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 05, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- MoSys, Inc. (NASDAQ: MOSY), a provider of semiconductor solutions that
enable fast, intelligent data access for cloud networking, security, test and video systems, today introduced an Integrated
Development Environment to allow customers to develop or port proprietary algorithms to the MoSys Programmable Search
Engine. As the unceasing requirements for speed and scale proliferate across virtually all applications, intelligent
and flexible acceleration of high-speed memory-intensive data processing functions is a key enabler for networking, security, video
and other systems to deliver higher performance and more efficient computation. The Programmable Search Engine and its
Integrated Development Environment (IDE) allow for the flexible implementation of in-memory, customized acceleration algorithms to
improve system performance and efficiency.
The Programmable Search Engine (PSE) is a derivative of the MoSys high-speed serial memory family that
integrates 32 multi-threaded cores with 1Gbit of high-speed memory. With interface capability up to 25Gb/s per lane, the
interface bandwidth can scale to over 800Mb/s. The internal memory architecture consists of SRAM class memory cells with 3ns tRC
and partitioned memory blocks totaling 1Gbit with internal memory access rates of up to 10 billion memory transactions per
second. Programmable cores provide greater flexibility to customize the device to support different types of algorithms and
functions. Each of the 32 processor cores supports 8 threads and can run up to 1.25GHz. The result is a device that allows
for in-memory compute and/or search to deliver significant improvements in performance and efficiency by reducing host chip
resources, reducing memory transaction latency and interface bottlenecks.
The architecture is well suited for algorithms that require SRAM-type high-speed random memory access and
updates, such as search, flow state tracking, statistics, row/column conversions, summation, sparse matrices, etc. Functions that
may have taken 10-20 transactions or more between host and external memory can be executed on-chip using a single subroutine call
to save valuable host resources and memory cycles.
“The MoSys Bandwidth Engine® is a proven industry solution for delivering high-speed serial memory technology to
solve memory bandwidth and access rate bottlenecks,” said Michael Miller, VP of Applications and Technology Innovation at MoSys.
“With the Programmable Search Engine and its IDE, customers can evaluate, develop and deliver custom algorithms to create a
programmable in-memory acceleration solution with scalable performance.”
The Integrated Development Environment platform utilizes a host FPGA and PSE device to provide a development and
emulation platform. The IDE also includes a software development environment that allows for editing, loading and debugging
the algorithms on the PSE programming elements.
The IDE platform is available today with MoSys supporting early customer evaluations using remote login for
convenience. Customers can transition the IDE solution to either their own platform or a MoSys physical platform, as
needed.
