Invesco further strengthens currency-hedged Canadian ETF lineup

Series added to Invesco S&P International Developed Low Volatility Index ETF (ILV)

TORONTO, Feb. 13, 2019 /CNW/ - Invesco today announced the launch of a new CAD-hedged series for Invesco S&P International Developed Low Volatility Index ETF (ticker symbol "ILV.F").

The initial offering of ILV.F has now closed, and it will be available for trading on TSX at market open today.

With the addition of the CAD-hedged series, investors can now choose to invest in the ETF on either a CAD-unhedged (ILV) or CAD-hedged (ILV.F) basis.

ILV seeks to replicate, to the extent reasonably possible and before fees and expenses, the performance of the S&P EPAC Ex. Korea Low Volatility Index, or any successor thereto, on an unhedged basis, in the case of any unhedged units, or on a hedged basis, in the case of any hedged units. This Invesco ETF invests primarily in low-volatility equity securities of companies located in developed markets within the Europe and Asia-Pacific regions, excluding Korea.

ILV offers the following potential benefits for investors:

  • Downside protection: Low-volatility stocks (i.e., securities with a standard deviation of price returns lower than that of the broader market) have historically provided a layer of protection in declining markets by capturing a smaller portion of downside movements relative to the broader equity markets. For investors concerned about volatility but seeking to maintain equity-market exposure, low-volatility strategies may help to reduce downside risk

  • Capital appreciation: Historically, low-volatility stocks have tended to outperform their market-capitalization-weighted benchmarks over the long term

  • Global diversification: International equity markets offer access to a wide range of investments across sectors and regions – adding diversification benefits when combined with North American-focused portfolios

Some ETFs seek to replicate, before fees and expenses, the performance of the applicable index, and are not actively managed. This means that the sub-advisor will not attempt to take defensive positions in declining markets and the ETF will continue to provide exposure to each of the securities in the index regardless of whether the financial condition of one or more issuers of securities in the index deteriorates. In contrast, if an ETF is actively managed, then the sub-advisor has discretion to adjust that ETF's holdings in accordance with the ETF's investment objectives and strategies.
