MONTREAL, Jan. 8, 2020 /CNW Telbec/ - Sales in December for the five weeks ended January 4, 2020 increased 2.5%, with a net reduction of 35 stores. Comparable sales1, which include e-commerce sales, increased 6.4%.

Sales for the fourth quarter to date, being the nine weeks ended January 4, 2020, increased 1.2% with 35 fewer stores in operation. Comparable sales1, which include e-commerce sales, increased 4.4%.

In the fourth quarter to date, the Company closed 1 store.  Accordingly, at January 4, 2020, there were 586 stores in operation, consisting of 260 Reitmans, 112 Penningtons, 78 Addition Elle, 81 RW & CO. and 55 Thyme Maternity, as compared with 621 stores last year.

1 The Company uses a key performance indicator ("KPI"), comparable sales, to assess store performance and sales growth.  The Company engages in an omnichannel approach in connecting with its customers by appealing to their shopping habits through either online or store channels.  This approach allows customers to shop online for home delivery, purchase in any of our store locations or ship to home from another store when the products are unavailable in a particular store. Due to customer cross-channel behaviour, the Company reports a single comparable sales metric, inclusive of store and e-commerce channels. Comparable sales are defined as sales generated by stores that have been continuously open during both of the periods being compared and include e-commerce sales.  Comparable sales exclude sales from wholesale accounts.
