Customers Save $9 Billion in Energy Costs Through Award-Winning ComEd Energy Efficiency Program

EXC

Association House joins long list of ComEd customers who are reducing energy costs and carbon emissions through US EPA-recognized program

ComEd today announced that hundreds of thousands of customers have saved a total of $9 billion on their energy bills through the company’s Energy Efficiency program. The program, which launched in 2008 and is now one of the largest in the nation, also received an ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year—Sustained Excellence Award, the highest level of recognition from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), for the 12th year in a row.

“ComEd’s commitment to providing safe, reliable and affordable energy includes offering customers tools to help them manage their energy use as a way to save money and the environment,” said Melissa Washington, ComEd’s Chief Customer Officer and Senior Vice President of Customer Operations and Strategic Initiatives. “It’s an honor to be recognized by the EPA for efforts that help individuals and organizations redirect funds to areas that are lifting up families and communities.”

ComEd’s announcements were made at Association House, a community-based organization in Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighborhood, which leveraged ComEd EE incentives to install more than 1,600 energy-efficient lights. The project is expected to reduce Association House’s total operational costs by $18,000 a year while saving enough energy to reduce its carbon emissions.

In addition to energy bill savings, Association House also qualified for $90,000 in incentives through the program to help defray the cost of its investment. The project is expected to help Association House save nearly 300,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity a year, which is the same amount of electricity used to power 35 ComEd customer homes over the same time period. It also helps reduce 215,000 pounds of carbon emissions that contribute to climate change, which is the equivalent of planting nearly 120 acres of trees.

“Through our commitment to sustainability, Association House will use these significant funds saved to provide more resources and support to our more than 30 programs, impacting thousands of individuals in our community,” said Juan Carlos Linares, Association House President & CEO. “We are also proud to do our part in contributing to a healthier environment and lay the foundation for a more sustainable tomorrow.”

In addition to billions of dollars in bill savings, the ComEd Energy Efficiency Program has also helped customers save more than 82 million net megawatt-hours of electricity, which is enough energy to power more than 9.5 million ComEd customers’ homes for one year. The program has also helped reduce from the air more than 60 billion pounds of carbon emissions, which is the equivalent of removing more than 6.1 million cars off the road for one year or planting nearly 33 million acres of trees.

The award-winning program, which is funded in compliance with state law, offers residents, businesses and the public sector a variety of options that help them cut back on their energy use, which reduces energy bills and helps the environment.

Recipients of the EPA’s 2024 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award for Sustained Excellence are selected through a network of thousands of ENERGY STAR partners. ComEd is joined this year by peer Exelon operating companies BGE, Delmarva Power and PECO in receiving recognition for its programs delivering demonstrable energy savings and reduction as federal efforts call for more to curb the effects of climate change.

“President Biden’s Investing in America agenda creates unprecedented opportunity to build a clean energy economy, and private sector partners through programs like ENERGY STAR are leading the way,” said EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan. “I congratulate this year’s ENERGY STAR award winners for their innovation and leadership, in delivering cost-effective energy efficient solutions that create jobs, address climate change, and contribute to a healthier environment for all.”
