5N Plus (TSX:VNO) has announced its subsidiary, Azur Space Solar Power GmbH, has supplied triple junction solar cells for the world’s largest next-generation long-duration solar energy storage project.

The power plant, which is owned by Australian-based RayGen, is in Carwarp, Australia, and was officially declared open on Thursday. It has roughly 4 MW solar and 2.8 MW / 50 MWh storage capacity, making it the world’s largest and lowest-cost next-generation long-duration energy storage project.

In a news release, the company based out of Montreal stated that AZUR’s solar cells are critical components of RayGen’s Sunlight technology.

The Sunlight technology is converted by a range of RayGen solar modules and tiled with AZUR cells into an electricity and heat byproduct.

“We are thrilled to have supported longtime partner RayGen to help deliver the world’s largest and highest efficiency solar storage photovoltaic project through innovative technology. AZUR’s high-efficiency, high-performance solar cells enable RayGen to provide energy on a large scale, consistently and on short-notice, with minimal environmental impact,” Gervais Jacques, CEO of 5N Plus, said in a statement.

5N Plus is a leading global producer of specialty semiconductors and performance materials.

Shares of 5N Plus are down 0.28 per cent to C$3.59 as of 11:38 am ET.
