Globex Mining (TSX:GMX) has revealed it has acquired 24 unpatented lode claims totaling a surface area of 200.67 hectares in Mohave County, Arizona.
In a news release, the Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec-based company stated the property, called the Salt Spring project, was staked to cover gold-bearing quartz veins, small historic mine workings and projects.
Globex Mining stated it has identified 14 small mine workings and 15 prospects in the area covered by the Salt Spring property area. Preliminary fieldwork has also already been completed by Globex Mining, including geological mapping and the collection of 70 rock samples.
Located in the northernmost margin of the historic Gold Basin Mining District, gold was discovered in the region as early as the 1870s. Most of the region’s production before 1932 came from the El Dorado, Excelsior, Golden Rule and Cyclopic mines.
The Salt Spring project area and its surroundings are occupied in its southern part by Proterozoic terrain dominated by felsic and mafic migmatite gneiss, a felsic gneiss unit, orthogneiss and dikes or small stocks of granodiorite.
Thursday’s announcement comes after the company’s acquisition of eight unpatented lode claims totaling 66.88 hectares in Clark County, Nevada.
Called theRed Star Project, the company staked the property to cover two epithermal quartz vein systems – the 2-kilometre-long Red Star vein system and the western, 470-metre-long segment – of the Double Standard vein system. The Double Standard vein zone is 2.5 kilometres south of the Red Star vein system.
