Tamarack Valley Energy Ltd. (TSX:TVE) temporarily shut its oil output production after a fire at a third party gas plant in Alberta.

The 6,200 barrels of oil equivalent per day plant is operated by Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. (TSX:CNQ) and it processes Tamarack Valley’s gas from various batteries in the Nipisi area.

The Mitsue, Alberta, fire broke out on Saturday and Canadian Natural Resources stated it was investigating the cause of the blaze and evaluating how long it will take to restore the facility to operation.

Tamarack is evaluating several alternatives that may enable it to accelerate bringing production back on-stream as the operator is currently evaluating the timeline to return the facility to operation.

In a Reuters interview, Tamarack’s CEO, Brian Schmidt said he expects this outage will be lengthy. The company’s options in the meantime include re-routing its gas to other processing plants and seeking relief from Alberta Energy Regulator, which limits gas flaring.

Tamarack Valley Energy Ltd. is an oil and gas exploration and production company. The company’s asset portfolio is composed of oil plays in Alberta, including Charlie Lake, Clearwater and several enhanced oil recovery opportunities.

Tamarack Valley Energy Ltd. (TSX:TVE) stock opened trading at C$3.80 per share and though it is up 1.33 per cent in the past month it has lost 7.35 per cent since this time last year.
