Edgewater Wireless (TSXV:YFI) has revealed it has completed a patent application to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for spectrum slicing.

The company stated in a news release that its patent application comes as the shift towards WiFi7 continues to gain traction and its feature of multi-link operation continues to rise in notoriety.

Spectrum slicing is when a frequency band can be divided or sliced for more radios to operate in a specific region.

Andrew Skafel, CEO of Edgewater Wireless, explained that the company’s spectrum slicing has more than 26 granted patents and is now being extended to include a new generation of application-layer intelligence.

The current patent application relates to the method and apparatus for in-band multi-channel determination and utilization.

“This invention, and its patentable components, represent the command and control mechanisms necessary to fully realize the power of spectrum slicing and wireless quality of service,” Eric Smith, vice president of product for Edgewater Wireless, said in a statement. “The official applications have now been formally filed both in the U.S. and abroad, and once again, Edgewater Wireless has broken new ground in Wi-Fi technology that will ultimately make ‘Wi-Fi better’ for everyone.”

Edgewater Wireless Systems is focused on spectrum-slicing technology for residential and commercial markets and develops advanced Wi-Fi silicon solutions, access points, and intellectual property licensing.

Shares of Edgewater Wireless Systems Inc. (TSXV:YFI) are unchanged at C$0.055.
