BlackBerry (TSX:BB) made headlines this week with dual deployments of cutting-edge tech platforms on the same day.
First, QNX Containers was launched to expand its software portfolio and support operating system virtualization and containerization on QNX-based devices.
QNX Containers can offer a standards-based platform for deploying, running and managing container technology on QNX devices. This intends to enable customers to utilize container technology while benefiting from the reliability of its QNX microkernel architecture.
QNX Containers also impose restrictions on features such as networking, filesystems, device access, memory access, communications and CPU, among others. These restrictions ensure highly secure and isolated embedded containers while maintaining the high performance and real-time capabilities of QNX OS 8. Not only that, but QNX Containers can operate alongside the QNX Hypervisor environment, allowing the concurrent use of virtual machines and containers.
“Development teams looking to build containerization into their strategy shouldn’t have to compromise on their choice of real-time operating systems,” Grant Courville, VP Products and Strategy, QNX said in a news release. “QNX Containers provide a standards-based way to package applications and their dependencies and then run them in a controlled and managed environment on QNX. We are already working with many customers who have standardized on our Hypervisor and OS, and who are gearing up to leverage QNX Containers as well.”
QNX Containers should be available in Q4 2024.
The same day, the Waterloo, Ontario-based tech company launched CylanceMDR Pro, a managed detection and response (MDR) service built on an Open XDR platform using AI.
Created to address the escalating challenges in modern cybersecurity, CylanceMDR Pro alleviates the operational strain on security teams that must defend against more sophisticated threats across expanding attack surfaces, despite limited resources and a talent shortage.
Designed for businesses looking to quickly advance their cybersecurity capabilities without overhauling their existing security infrastructure or hiring teams of analysts, CylanceMDR Pro integrates with existing security tools, providing more visibility across an IT infrastructure without the need to rip and replace any existing tooling.
“Across the industry, BlackBerry has observed close to a 250 per cent increase in unique attacks per minute in the last year alone, with a continued trend in our latest Global Threat Intelligence Report,” Nathan Jenniges, senior vice president and general manager, BlackBerry Cybersecurity, said in a media statement. “The effectiveness of any MDR depends heavily on its underlying platform, its experts, and the full breadth of services delivered. “Our AI-driven approach, combined with our expert security team, delivers unmatched protection and peace of mind, allowing businesses to focus on what they do best.”
This follows BlackBerry’s recent release of its new and expanded CylanceMDR, a managed detection and response tool backed by the company’s Cylance AI platform, the cybersecurity industry’s longest-running predictive platform on the market.
BlackBerry offers intelligent security software and services to enterprises and governments worldwide. The company’s software powers more than 235 million vehicles.
BlackBerry Ltd. stock (TSX:BB) opened 0.29 per cent lower at C$3.40. While 7.75 per cent higher in the past month, the stock has given back 29.38 per cent year-to-date.
