Thank you’s and several compelling resource investment ideas

These are a round of thank-you’s weatTicker Traxsend to thought leaders: the resource professionals who alter or improve our knowledge base.

There are several compelling investment ideas here as well. So:

  • Thank you, Jim Simpson & Tyrone Docherty at Golden Odyssey Mining (TSX: V.GOE, Stock Forum)for keeping me at speed on the rise in tungsten and tellurium prices. Tungsten carbide prices rose as much as five percent this week in China when availability shriveled for APT, a necessary production agent for tungsten at smelters. Tellurium’s price, say consultant Jim and CEO Tyrone at Deer Horn, British Columbia, prospector Golden Odyssey, since year 2000 has been volatile to the extreme, quintupling in one stretch. The element is among the (truly) rarest on earth and sees use in semiconductors, solar panels and machine-capable alloys. See coverage via Stockhouse.I do not own the shares.
  • A confirmation thank-you to Frank Holmes and his firm’s U.S. Global Investors World Precious Minerals Fund. That fund owns 2.6 million of the 73 million GOE outstanding shares.
  • A thank-you to CEO Thomas Klein at Golden PhoenixMinerals (OTC:BB: GPXM, Stock Forum) for his hard-nosed approach to royalty mining, to multiple-jurisdiction strategies and to chin-to-chin negotiating. Thank you as well for Mr. Klein’s heads-up on the Shining Tree mining district in Ontario, Canada. Didn’t know that one. No confirmations yet in terms of this tiny company’s investment potential. I am going to see one of Golden Phoenix’s active jurisdictions this weekend (in Nevada) with a small group of bare-knuckled investors. Golden Phoenix’s company presentation is instructive. I do not own the shares. But this could be a Millrock Resources redux.
  • Millrock Resources (TSX: V.MRO, Stock Forum) – I must thank Brien Lundin, the Gold Newsletter writer and New Orleans conference guy, for swinging me by the Millrock booth the other day in San Francisco. “I am not a fan of project generator models,” Brien whispered to me as we meet with the company’s Gregory Beischer, “unless it is done well with a who’s who of operators, Kinross (NYSE: KGC, Stock Forum), Teck, Valdez, Inmet (TSX: T.IMN, Stock Forum), Altius.” Brien Lundin was among the first to start covering the company in 2007, he says. “It was my best call ever,” he said. Millrock stakes swaths of land in Alaska and Arizona, hoping to hit gold and copper of great size. “Look, porphyry exploration is expensive,” says Greg B., CEO and president of Millrock. “Each hole can cost $300,000 or more to drill. So when we get a Valdez Gold (TSX: V.VAZ, Stock Forum) to earn up to a 75 percent stake by spending $6 million, we think that is meaningful.” I do not own Millrock shares.
  • Peter Megaw goes into that category of contact I label middle-aged doctorate-trained geologist who returns my calls and e-mails.He is a pleasure to be with on site. His specialty is Mexico silver.Based in Tucson, where I attended graduate school at the University of Arizona, Peteris into skarns and epithermal vein deposits. He is credited with several sizeable silver discoveries down south – Mag Silver’s Juanicipio-Fresnillo, Zacatecas, Platosa among ‘em. As a director, Dr. Megaw’s latest project is Minaurum Gold (TSX: V.MGG, Stock Forum). I say thanks to Peter not just for being responsive. He is a file cabinet of cross references. Minaurum’s flagship, for instance, is the Aurena Gold Project in Mexico, which is classified as a pro-grade skarn deposit and thus, “low tonnage and high grade like Hedley in Canada and Fortitude in Nevada.” He’s handy with the Spanish, too. Adelante. I do not own the shares. More on Dr. Megaw: Recent article.
