Among
ProMIS Neurosciences Inc.'s (PMN:TSE) "key accomplishments" in the quarter, the company noted it expanded its potentially "best in class amyloid-beta (Aß) portfolio for Alzheimer's disease," according to a July 10
news release. In its
oral presentation, the company stressed its emphasis on the "best in class" goal, noting that even though
Biogen Inc.'s (BIIB:NASDAQ) aducanumab will be "first in class" and is progressing well in development, the ProMIS compound could be more selective and possess greater patient benefits.
Advancements included designating "PMN350 as second validated product lead [based on] in vivo data and biologic evidence of neuronal protection against toxic Aß oligomers," as well as continuing efforts to validate "additional antibody product candidates against various Aß epitope targets [with] data anticipated in coming months."
ProMIS also noted the identification of an "epitope target on TDP43 (implicated in ALS and frontotemporal dementia)," and submission of a "provisional patent" to the U.S. Patent Office.
The company is also progressing on cohort studies designed to "explore opportunities for precision medicine" in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease.
In addition, the company continues working to identify "specific targets on alpha-synuclein (Parkinson's and Lewy body dementia) and tau (Alzheimer's disease)."
"We are pleased with the continued progress at ProMIS and remain confident that our monoclonal antibody programs focused on selectively targeting the toxic, prion-like forms of Amyloid beta may lead to best in class therapies and significant long-term value creation," the company executive chairman, Eugene Williams, stated in the release.
