Ticker Trax

Headed to Fortuna heights of Peru

  • New Prospect: Colombian Mines (CMJ)
  • Onto Caylloma (FCV)

AREQUIPA, Peru – I write this less than an hour before heading up the mountain – to see Fortuna Silver’s Caylloma silver-lead-zinc mine.

It is five hours’ drive, and during that drive, altitude doubles, and then some, from our present 2,300 meters.

Click to enlargeFortuna Silver Mines (TSX: V.FVI, Stock Forum) has a second property, a silver and gold mine, at Oaxaca in Mexico. The Canadian company is part of Simon Ridgway and Ralph Rushton’s Goldgroup, which includes prospector Focus Ventures (TSX: V.FCV, Stock Forum) in the Cordillera Blanca section of this country.

The map above is a photo I snapped at Focus’s Nueva California property, where Mark Slauenwhite and David Cass and their tight team of geologists are shooting for what they hope is a disseminated bulk tonnage deposit of gold that is, need we say, open-pittable. I will have more to say about both these companies in due course.

In the meantime, I am advising Ticker Trax subscribers that I shall be spending more time in Colombia. Colombia Mines (TSX: V.CMJ, Stock Forum) is the latest Planetary Prospect of this service, its 12th.

Sometime in the coming year, many of the gold properties in and around the Marmato deposits some three hours south of Medellin will triple and quadruple in value. Much of the interest will come from Medoro Resources’ (TSX: V.MRS, Stock Forum) work on that mountain, which is dusted with gold yet torn by landslides and illegal mining. This is the beauty of Colombia – once the largest South America producer of gold: that gold is dripping off that mountain, and that ore is steeped in related trends, among them nearby Guayabales (privately held Mercer) and Colombia Mines’ Yarumalito.

Several Planetary Prospects of this service (12 exist) are poised for further gains. The latest one is Colombia Mines (CMJ). In addition, I continue to own all 65,000 shares of BioCryst Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: BCRX, Stock Forum).

Inter-Citic Minerals (TSX: T.ICI, Stock Forum), after revealing a potent (step-out) drill hole at Dachang in eastern China, is finally shedding its 70-cent past with authority. CEO Jim Moore and back from China, discussing a potential partnership with a China miner/prospector. I will have further information as it arrives. (We repeat this paragraph from last week’s report.)

Questions about our 11 Planetary Prospects? Feel free to call or slog me: thom.calandra at stockhouse.com. I have great interest right now in exploring several nations -- Ghana, Mexico, Peru, Haiti, Indonesia and my beloved Colombia, where I am planning to spend a great deal of time the next two years. They are all primed. I am in Peru and am accompanied by Louis James of Casey Research.

(P.S., I own shares of Medoro, and I have so for 18 months; I will be reporting more about the company and its work in Click to enlargeColombia in coming weeks.)

(All photos by Thom Calandra. Thom owns shares of our 11 Planetary Prospects and will be seeking to purchase CMJ soon.)
