Do the math
Do the math Canada increases its population (age 15 and older) by 1.03 million since last February and you mean to tell me the labour force only increased by 554k? This tells me 476k residents are not looking for work. Why did you invite these people to this country if they are not even looking for work? Are we paying for elderly people to just sit at home and abuse our healthcare system? That is a labour participation rate of only 53.8% which is very low for this country. My best guess is that the "true" labour force increased by 650k since last Feb and the unemployment rate should be about 6.2%.
total unemployed as of Feb 2024 = 1.26 million
using my estimates, the "true" labour force increased by 650k since Feb 2023 compared to 554k reported. That's an increase in total unemployed by 96k.
total "true" unemployed = 1.26m + 0.096m = 1.356 million
total labour force = labour force (Feb 2023) + 650k
total labour force = 21,109.7k+ 650k = 21,759.7
* true unemployment rate =~ 1.356m/21.7597m =~ 6.23%
