I'm a retail ("same day"/swing) trader who trades between 40 and 60 trades a month. I primarily trade from an RSP and secondarily from a TFSA account through a discount broker. I'm convinced the whole marketplace is set up to position the "retail trader" at a disadvantage - Starting with you're very own online discount investing broker! 99% of my stock picks are from the TSX Venture board. I do not make stock recommendations. Those who do, do it out of self interest and prey on others so that they can sell them their stocks in the end and then announce they closed their position. Why else would you tell someone to buy?? As Ayn Rand professed - There is no such thing as altruism. I will on occasion disclose stocks I routinely trade but do not recommend them. Its your job to pick your stocks and develop a trading strategy. My blog includes info on: - Mining and Energy Stocks. - Online trading - Technology - Current events - Books/Music

  • High-net-worth clients vs Retail traders/investors

Investing & personal finance_____________________________________My guess is that not many or any high net worth clients visit our boards at Stockhouse. I'm going to guess further that we are all retail traders who feel confident in being able to learn how to invest, pick & control our assets and are looking for more than just "safe" returns on investments.______________________________...

As a short term holder of penny stocks, it has been an interesting week. Picked up many of my usual favorites at lower prices. Nice to see Friday end on an up note after picking up many discounted stocks. I do hate the fact that the Canadian market is not in sync with the US for open and closed stock market days. We'll be closed Monday and after what we've just experienced in the market this...

  • The risk vs reward of penny stocks

Even though I profess the profitability and ease of flipping penny stocks many times over, there is still the fate of companies being delisted and you lose your stash. I've experienced a couple and its disheartening. Its par for the course when you have your hands on many trades and lose track of some of the dormant trades thinking oh they'll rebound. I need to regularly review my open trades...

With this market meltdown, one thing is for sure, the discount stock brokers abandon their clients. Its every trader for himself. I can't access my order status page. I get try again later or I get an error message.Their platform systems fail on any surge of activity and today is a whopper. If they are going to expend any resources its going to be to make sure their own trading floor traders...

My Watchlist..With my RBC DI trading platform I can set up 20 "watchlists" which hold 15 companies in each. This means I can track 300 companies. You can therefore group your stockpicks together: say by country, metal, sector, and so on. Following is a partial list of companies I track which I regularly flip stocks in. I'm usually 50% vested and 50% cash. The cash is spread in these picks on...
