Valuation

About the only positive I can think of is that the new company may attract some analyst attention.  So, with a $.03 divvy, I don't see SGL spending a lot of time under $3.00.  If you think the deal will go through, CHX and PCE trade at a slight discount to AVF, even accounting for the  .07 divvy AVF holders will receive before the deal closes.  If the deal doesn't close, I really don't want to own the remains of AVF.

This is now a bigger tax-loss candidate.

I'm really unhappy with this.  PKI says buying Elbow River will add $.13 in earnings.

This grinch's heart is not growing three times larger.

.13 in earnings times 15 forward PE gives about $1.95 in market value increase per share.  Multiply by 67M+ PKI shares and they walked away with an asset worth over $130M   And they paid $80M for it.   That's why the stock is so up today.   To sell it for even $120M would have been under selling it.   $80M:  we were robbed.   We were driving a Volvo and ...more

There is no guarantee that a dividend will be paid in January.>

A lot of knee jerk reaction from investors. People are dumping shares on emotions without actually thinking. I just bought 10000 shares of the company. In my mind book value of the SGL is going to be anywhere  between 3.30 and 5.00 thefore even at the low end  when the shares are converted to SGL who ever is buying shares now will walk away with 10%-30% profit on the day of the ...more

mwahsrm, a dividend was declared.  Ex-date is Dec 27, payment date Jan 15.  For $ 0.035.  Once a div has been declared it is law that it must be paid.  Once declared it is due.  It is like any loan or mortgage, once signed the monthly payment is due.

Do you think we will get the January and February dividend as well? I guess the first dividend under the new entity will be in March, assuming is closes?
Comment by nwahsrm on Dec 20, 2012 2:26pm
Yes of course. I mis-spoke (mis-wrote?). I meant that there is no guarantee that another dividend will be DECLARED in Jan as was being suggested by BF. Thanks for the correction.>

I had the confidence when Elbow was till around. Now we lost the cash cow. And furthermore, AVF has now gotten under the blankets with some bad names with high debt-loads too. Is the mgmt a AVF really that dumb or what ? A previous poster mentioned even the new CEO does not really have that great a record too.  Can somebody tell me what's the advantage for AVF (and for us too ...more

" Is the management of avx that dumb ? "___ They are far from it my friend... Just morally and ethically bankrupt... Their recent actions were a carefully executed chain of events to maximize benefits to themselves with total disregard for the shareholders... To sell the thing of most value they owned for less than it was worth and then merge with companies whose track records are ...more

I'm sorry - I too am ot totally sure what to say. I can't voice out my gut feel,... too dangerous to do that. But I'm not cutting loss yet, as I said in an immediate previous post. It's my capital at stake, I'll let it stay there for now.

need the cash for what - propping up charger? Shareholders get nothing on this - listen to the conference call.  It's all a little too cosy.
