I took the same risks and it was largely through growth stocks that led me to financial independence in my 40s.
Then I took most of it off the table-put it into dividend growth stocks, and real estate.
The income from this, is more than enough to live well.
I still play on the margins, and want more,even though I have enough.
Greed must be in our DNA.
There is nothing like the rush of making 100%+ on an investment.
Once you taste that, and it changes your life, its addictive.
When I have taken a leap and gotten burnt-I sell out too quickly because I have too much to lose now.
I keep greed in check(sometimes) by trying to analyze things.
Thats why -when I hear folks pumping, I jump on it sometimes.
Funny how things change.
