This is a major development towards full FDA approval this year opening up entry into big box stores like Costco, Walmart etc.

"In his previous role as commissioner, Califf has expressed support of cannabis and cannabinoid research for medical applications.
“The [FDA] is supportive of scientific research and of the medical uses of marijuana and its constituents when done through scientifically valid investigations and as part of the FDA's drug review and approval process,” Califf said during a neuroscience research summit held in 2016.
In fact, Califf said during the summit that he had prescribed cannabinoid-based medicine to some of his patients who experienced heart failure–a fact the National Industrial Hemp Council (NIHC) sees as promising for the advancement of the industry.
“Our industry has reason to be cautiously optimistic that the FDA is now led by a physician who has previously prescribed cannabinoids to his patients. We look forward to working with Dr. Califf on a commonsense regulatory framework that promotes the safe use of hemp in supplements, food and animal feed,” said Patrick Atagi, president and CEO of the NIHC, in a written statement.
