they say that their newest devices are smaller with smaller antennas so maybe it costs less to make them, hence better margins

The stock is being manipulated. During last 4 days the bid and ask price is always in increment of 5 cents (3.20, 3.25, 3.30, … ). This means the same organization sets the bid and ask price and
