I know that this Guanxi stuff is so obscure, but just imagine the Rothchilds/Morgan connecction (beginning of the Fed, and other stuff from the days of old JP), yes conspiracy theorist stuff, and no I am not a major conspiracy advocate,  just old friends will be friends), and multiply it over more than a millenium.  Scholars supported each other, made fortunes, lost fortunes, fell in and out of favor and were raised up and then struck down (literally) and over centuries groups have developed where some trust some others more, etc.  Right now the families seem to be mostly in harmony with some trading going on between factions (and new PRC families coming to prominence as in any new dynasty) but over time all is assimilated, even the Mongols, just like the Borg (lol).  What exact role Yang plays in all this needs to be determined since Dr. Lee (Li?) seems to be somewhat removed due to his location in the U.S., though in Chinese history outside chinese have sometimes had very large effects.  Have fun.
