The statement "$10K TFSA room may prompt older pre-retirees to skip more RRSP contributions" sure rings true here!! My TFSA is fully vested (now over $50,000) and that's $20,000 that WOULD have gone to RSP's, been taxed upon withdrawl and subject to all sorts of restrictions. I withdrew funds from my TFSA 2 years ago and it's just like transfering cash between you chequing and savings accounts!!

BTW ... just got off the phone with my banker and I CANNOT just transfer $20,000 worth of MMT from MY investment account to my wife's TFSA even though I will have trading authority. She suggested we open a joint investment account and move MY IA holdings into there. These will enable us to transfer funds from our joint IA to our individual TFSA's in the future. Makes sense to me.
