RE:Mackenzie Valley Pipeline

RE:Mackenzie Valley Pipeline
OilEng, you nailed the issues. The overview provided is an Executive Summary of issues; moderate but knowledgeable opinion. There is a tonne of political hair on building out the MVP but the current government is seeing the need to open up the north. The Russians and Europeans are reaching further into frontiers and arctic resources and Canada can't afford to be the last ones in. Technology will open up the northern resources and there are 2 billion more people in the world that want to live like westerners since I was born. Sorry there aren't enough trees to burn to fuel the fires of economic growth. I'm of the opinion that the government will weigh the benefits of subsidizing the pipeline against the views of the greens and first nations abilities to leverage votes. It's a saw off as I see it; but I don't think there is enough political will to take the step to facilitate the MVP pipeline. John in Calgary may be right...it may take yet another future attempt to endorse the MVP development. It's closer than it was in the 80's but it still may not be close enough. The first nations will need to be made equity partners in some twisted way. So much for equality. The feds will be fighting their own departments on emissions and species at risk; by the way Caribou are really ideally situated to become extinct in the geologic context... Intervening may be more ecologically evasive to the environment then trying to save their habitat. I'd sure like to see the pipeline open up from Norman wells to the south as it really is the right thing to do for the good of the country but I just see the fringe groups, Aboriginals and greens spinning this into a political hot button that the government doesn't want to take on at this time. Regards,
