Kenogaming The Kenogaming, Pharand I and Pharand II Township Properties of RT Minerals, are located within the Abitibi sub-province of the Superior Province, about 46 km southwest of Timmins, Ontario.
"The Properties are located within the Hanrahan assemblage which is confined to the southeastern part of the Northern Swayze Greenstone Belt. The Hanrahan assemblage consists predominantly of calc-alkaline intermediate and felsic volcanic rocks that have been intruded by extensive ultramafic and gabbroic sills (cumulate- textured ultramafic bodies). The cumulate ultramafic bodies are the specific targets comprising the Kenogaming, Pharand I and Pharand II prospects. The ultramafic cumulates are fine to medium grained massive rocks that are strongly magnetic, locally serpentinized and talcose, and may contain fuchsite mica" (RT Minerals website).
Within the Kenogaming Property, there are 2 large magnetic anomalies that I'll call the West Magnetic Anomaly (WMA) and the East Magnetic Anomaly (EMA). The Pharand I Property also has 2 magnetic anomalies, that again I will call the West Magnetic Anomaly (WMA) and the East Magnetic Anomaly (EMA). For the Pharand II Property, there are also 2 magnetic anomalies, the North Magnetic Anomaly (NMA) and the South Magnetic Anomaly (SMA).
Kenogaming Property
History
There have been three exploration programs carried out previously on the Kenogaming WMA. The first one was by Amax Minerals in 1978, which carried out Horizontal Loop Electromagnetic and Magnetometer Surveys (Assessment File 42A04NW8555/42A04NW8555).The second program was by E. Mord, who did some prospecting in 1992, as well as doing a VLF-EM survey over the Property (Assessment File 42A04NE8554/42A04NE8554). The third party to work on the Property was J. Salo, in order to fulfill an OPAP Grant in 1998, who carried out a grass roots prospecting program, including plugger work, sampling, assaying, line cutting, magnetometer survey, silt sampling, and mapping (Assessment File 42A04NW2003/42A04NW2003).
As far as I know, there has been no exploration work carried out on the East Magnetic Anomaly. Just to the east of the Kenogaming Property, and west of the Pharand I property, is a property that was worked on by E. Mord back in 1992. It is a copper showing, as indicated on Map P.1517. I'll have more to say about this project in a future post.
Nickel, chromium, cobalt and base metals are the commodities being sought by RT Minerals.
There apparently had been no work carried out on the Kenogaming Property prior to 1978, when Amax Minerals began their exploration program on the WMA. Dunvegan Dev Corp carried out a drilling program (Assessment File 42A04NW0158/42A04NW0158) just to the south of the WMA, and except for the drill logs, I was unable to locate any other information on Dunvegan's program, prior to their drilling. Assay results were not found. They intercepted a lot of pyrrhotite and some chalcopyrite in peridotite close to surface.
With respect to a regional exploration picture, I am only aware of the former Canadian Johns-Manville Reeves Mine, which was an asbestos mine of limited size. It is located in Reeves Township, just northwest of the Kenogaming Property. The ore zones occur in serpentinized dunite.
West of the Kenogaming Property, and west of Akweskwa Lake, there were extensive exploration programs carried out by a number of companies exploring for nickel, where several large ultramafic intrusives are located (Ontario Department of Mines Geological Report 97). Of course, gold had its day too.
To the west and south of the Kenogaming Property, a large land package is presently being worked on by GFG Resources. Their main focus is on gold.
