RE:Lampert made out like a bandit

RE:Lampert made out like a banditBingo! It was the rumor at the time that one of the reasons he purchased Sears Holdings was to get the cash out of Sears Canada. We kind of hoped that wasn't the case, and hoped that he knew what he was doing and wanted to strengthen the whole thing.

Sears Canada was really wealthy back then. They had enough resources that had they brought in the right CEO (i.e a Calvin Macdonald type) they could have weathered the increase in competition and continued to be a major retail player.

Worthy of a book sometime in the future - how to destroy a retail chain. Sad in a way.
