Lampert made out like a bandit

While he is the major shareholder more money has been take out via dividends than what Lampert paidt for this stock back in 2005 (was trading around $16 at the time.

Total cash extracted $37 dollars so he more than double.  He can handle a CCAA now since he is covered.  Much different story at Sears Holdings though where a risk of good haircut is real.

Bingo! It was the rumor at the time that one of the reasons he purchased Sears Holdings was to get the cash out of Sears Canada. We kind of hoped that wasn't the case, and hoped that he knew what he was doing and wanted to strengthen the whole thing. Sears Canada was really wealthy back then. They had enough resources that had they brought in the right CEO (i.e a Calvin Macdonald type) they ...more
