RE:RE:Knowing what you know

RE:RE:Knowing what you knowThere are plenty of ways to skin a cat.  Personally I have never been comfortable with having a "long term" investment in any airline stock.  From my experience they are just to prone to "shocks" of one type or another.  That said, the airline industry has been very good to me including AC.  Most of my activity around airlines in the past was either short selling or convertible arbitrage (long a convertible/ short the common).  In the past year I have added "trading" to the mix and to date this has also been very rewarding for that part of my personal investment business that is dedicated to trading.

Last year I was early to identify the potential for problems with the airline industry given COVID (it reminded me of SAARS) and I was able to take a short position in January at +$50.  I rode that all the way down (with a bit to much trading of the short position in retrospect) to the point where they did their first equity financing.  Subsequently I began to notice increasing air traffic over my house in Toronto and started to trade the stock from the long side.  Eventually my trading evolved into both short term long and short positions.  There were many weeks where my trading blotter was full of AC trades of one type or another.  I don't have any exposure at this very moment but look forward to a return of the volatility to the share price for potential further opportunities from a trading perspective.

At the moment I'm trying to figure out how Cineplex will avoid a restructuring.........
