Bailout coming, Trudeau Election Gambit

I am encouraged by this article which postulates an election by June.....This means that Canadians will demand their airline refunds prior to voting day. Any sector relief given to the airlines will come with this guarantee. However the airlines will need time to process these refunds and the refund process could take 2 to 3 months....So any sector relief has to come in February, that would give the airlines ample time to apply refunds by May, just in time for June election...imo

With that said it would be nice for trudeau to have any talking point he can get ...more

I seriously doubt that an airline ticket refund will be very high up on the major election issues challenging re election! How many people in Canada do you think really care if they get a refund or future booking and will change their vote if they don't get a refund. This issue is not causing delays in bail out or a concern in the election platforms.

You are probably not entirely incorrect in your response...perhaps the 20,000 jobs lost from Air Canada alone may be something to be worried about..today Bombardier shed 1,600 jobs. The main issue is how fast can these jobs get back to pre-pandemic levels. Imagine being an airline staff who was laid off, now you have to reapply and compete with newer applicants perhaps at lower wage to have your ...more

Airline staff that have been furloughed don't have to reapply to get their jobs back.  They are unionized and therefore have seniority.  When company recalls them they go back to their previous job and pay.  Furloughed is not same as fired.
