From #1 to bottom of the heap

I'm really disappointed with AQN every since the new CEO moved in. It has gone from one of my favs to the absolute bottom of the pile. We first bought AQN in Nov, 2011 at $5.55. We marvelled at how well Robertson guided the ship and what a great job he did. Then the twit Banskota took over and it's really been all downhill from there and it seems to be picking up speed on the slide. I

For starters, I hated it when he raised the divy by 10% when they were packing that much debt and adding to it. Then this Kentucky Power take-over took stupid to a new level. It's driven me to the point of  looking to trim if it ever gets back to the $19.50 range. What a mess!!

As an aside, I really like every single other one of our holdings. We are 100% invested in TSX listed dividend income/growth stocks/ETFs as follows:

Utilities - AQN, CPX, EMA, FTX
Banks - BMO, BNS, RY, TD
Midstream - ENB, KEY, PPL, TRP
REITs - DIR.UN, GRT.UN, NWH.UN
Telecom - BCE, T

We also hold a mid-sized position in FIE and ZWB.

Ciao

Good example with  KEY that have a nice dividend .Top of the yielding dividend stock.Same thing with Gibson and many others  In a matter of hours this morning Key share price as gone  from $ 30,34 ...more

Gibson's net-of-inflation dividend CAGR is 1% over the past few years. Keyera's net-of-inflation dividend CAGR is 2% over the past few years. Algonquin's net-of-inflation dividend CAGR is 8% over the past few years (USD). AQN's constant-dollar dividend growth has massively outperformed the other two. I recently swapped my GEI for TRP precisely because GEI's current dividend ...more

Hey Bossu My wife & I are dividend income/growth investors and really only care about having enough dividend income to cover all our expenses. As it sits, we have over 2.5x the income we need so we never have to sell anythng if we don't want. The only time we would consider a sell is if something changes with the company, including a dividend cut. This is why I would consider trimming AQN ...more

Hey Bossu Thanks on the comments. I am very pleased with our investment strategy. It took a while to develop (mostly 2012-2014) but we are where we want to be. As an aside, I actually devloped it on my own with my own research before Henry Mah wrote his book. It's just a coincidence (and a great confirmation) that we ended with an almost identical approach. We never have to worry about stock ...more
