Core inflation is actually is still much higher than headline (3.75% vs 3.15%)
To bring inflation back to 2% you need higher unemployment. It's very difficult to keep unemployment this low and have immaculate disinflation at the same time. 

The unemployment rate is 3.9% which is 50 bps above its trough level. I would not be surprised that by the end of 2025 the unemployment rate in the US is higher than 5.5% and inflation is below 2%.
