Far better for BB to get completely out of the IP enforcement game. Take the money and run. Let a proper patent troll take on the business of squeezing marks for protection money.
That's the gist of it. We seem to have more companies angry with us as opposed to friendly terms. Also may be indicative of a single entity purchasing the patents.
Just adding my two cents to the Marconi theory, IMO one of the best theories out there., An end of year rambling......
Nov 15 2017 BB announced they'd enlisted the services of Marconi to act as a sublicensee. In the news release back then, their CEO mentioned the approx 40000 patents BB owned as one of the most valuable portfolios on the market. So I think at that time BB was already feeling the animosity from companies who perhaps considered threats of litigation as a reason not to deal with us.
Between then and now, Marconi has set up shop in China, Huawei purchased 90 BB patents, and FB capitulated to BB patent infringement charges. Next thing you know all the patents are for sale. What happens to Marconi and sub licensing should someone other than Marconi buy them or they are sold piecemeal? IMO better for Marconi (or one entity) to own the lot.
Perhaps Marconi is privy to the FB/BB settlement number or they've been in this business long enough to accurately estimate value. I would think they had first shot at them. All good but politically there may be a problem with Marconi's China relationship causing delay. Regardless, the wireless competition is fierce over there and maybe Marconi sees BB patents as a potential gold mine...idk. Those 90 patents may have opened a door. Who knows, maybe Marconi and BB planned it all along. Meantime Marconi established itself in China and then the wait for a positive FB/BB settlement.
Nov 15 news release. Notice CEO's have not changed and I think that's significant also.
