I think that Gripen will be better for Canada and Bombardier ( BBD have a partnership with SAAB)    But that been said Canada will certainly choose the F-35.

You can see on page 3 that it will meet NORAD and NATO... https://www.saab.com/globalassets/markets/canada/english-brochure.pdf

From what I understand of the bids, the Gripen, if I remember correctly is 80% Cdn. content versus 20 for F35 and certainly more play for BBD as Montreal facilities mentioned in Aerospace https://www.saab.com/markets/canada/gripen-for-canada/gripen-and-aerospace-rd-centers

Neither fighter jet contract will bring any benefit to Bombardier. If Saab is choosen then it will be build by IMP aeropsace in East coast. Lockheed has its own supply change and Canadian suppliers already. Those suppliers will benefit more from Canadian order. If anything, it seems Saab being build in Canada will put pressure on tight aeropsace jobs in Canada. Saab assembly work could put ...more

I guess then you haven't read the Piece by saab in the quote about the facilities in Montreal ..nothing mentioned about the east coast.  I presume you have some back up to confirm your satement of fact ? quote=stockitnow]Neither fighter jet contract will bring any benefit to Bombardier. Did you read the cbc article today? "Saab, on the other hand, is pitching that Canadian Gripens be assembled in Canada (at IMP Aerospace& Defence in Nova Scotia) and more importantly that all of the intellectual property rights for sustainment and operations become the property of the federal government. That by itself is a significant concession thatwould give Canada sovereign control ...more

Stock is right.  Up to now there has been no confirmed link between the SAAB plan and BBD Saab Announces ‘Gripen for Canada Team’

No Kidding ?   Bombardier was not even supposed to exist anymore at the time these proposals were set up and I am sure many more things have and will change as to the distribution of economic benefit to the regions.
Comment by Shamhorish on Jan 03, 2022 12:07pm
stockit, yes, it would be great to have the  Gripens assembled in Canada and have all of the intellectual property rights to be the property of the federal government. and to have the sovereign control over Canadian fighter jet fleet. all of this is great, but i still have doubts as imo, Cabadian Gov. will not dare to buy other than US fighter jets  canada has always wal in USA ...more

I quoted what the article had said. I agree that Canada will go with F35. This is so Junior can say Canada had a bidding process before buying F35. How else will he explain canceling the harper era F35 selection and buying it now.

Your statement "Neither fighter jet contract will bring any benefit to Bombardier." is quite baseless since on their own part of the proposal  "As part of this package Saab will establish two new aerospace centers in the Greater Montreal Region. These centers will help support a resurgent aerospace sector, building on its domestic excellence, while spurring development in new ...more

Saab is not working with Bombardier, they are working with IMP. If Saab sets up facilities in Montreal it will be through IMP for Grippen work. Any facilities for Saab assembly work in Montreal has potential for poaching Bombardier employees. If Saab was working with Bombardier it would already been advertised by Saab. Remember all of this was submitted during initial bidding process. If Saab ...more

Well you seem to have all the answers and to state as a fact that Bombardier will have no involvement other than to lose employees  is quite an ignorant statement when looking at all the facilities and technolgies  in Montreal and elsewhere let alone the political implications
Comment by stockitnow on Jan 03, 2022 12:42pm
It is a fact that Bombardier has no involvement. Its coming from Saab proposal and their company communication. And for jobs, what do you think happens to salary of employees when another company opens up shop in same town looking for same talent? It is you who are ignoring the facts and going on your own assumptions.
