Given the byzantine corporate structures used within the Brookfield entities, I'm not sure if anyone can address this issue definitively. Absolutely, subsectors like Brookfield Renewable and Brookfield Infrastructure will not collapse. However, if office real estate proves to be a drag on the entirety, could BN default on BPO obligations ... rather like amputating a gangrenous toe to save a patient's life? This current panic was triggered by Brookfield defaulting on mortgage renewals on a couple of large office complexes in the USA (LA?) ... which they did with no apparent repercussions for the other subsidiary components. But it sure resulted in a swift kick in the gon@ds for BPO preferreds!
