BTB REIT unit short position

BTB REIT unit short positionThe recently released January 31, 2021 TSX short position report shows BTB with its short position essentially unchanged since it dropped from 5 million shares at September 30 2020 to 4 million shares at October 15 2020. Since then it has held at 4 million plus or minus 10,000 units.

The actual reported figure at January 31, 2021 was 3,996,352.

I still have yet to figure out a viable investment strategy for shorting a REIT when it has a monthy distribution above 8% that the short holder has to cover, in addition to margin and shorting carry costs.

Has any one else figured this out? I would be keen to know your opinions.

Cheers,

S
