RE:August Sept Oct Not sure where you get the Low cost from. in 2010 Conifex purchase the old Carrier Lumber mill and the Mill built by Cattermole Timber in 1964. They were both idle when Conifex bought them.
Carrier mill had been dormant for some years when Conifex bought them
, The other most commoly known as Finley Forest industries. who got it after Bob Cattermole went broke. Blain Crook was the Manager at that time.
Later as it got older and less profitable Abitbi took it over. Profits were in trouble there to. It seemed rather than fully modernize the mill new ownership believed it would become a great money maker because a new face sat in the CEO's desk. So far that has not happened.
Available Timber resources are getting farther and farther away from the mill. The forest access road up the lake goes to Ft Ware and all the way to and past Kemess mines at Thutade Lake the head waters of the findly river. 475 km in behind Mackenzie.
If it was a fantasticly profitable enterprize Canfor would have gleeped it. They already own the former BCFP operation and had some investment there with Finley. But they did not. Instead Canfor left the mills idle.
Eventually I could forsee Canfor taking over the AAC of the Conifex Mackenzie mill ( nee FFI ) and folding it into their fully modern operation. Provincial AAC will also br reduced in that area as well. Combined the AAC in the Mackenzie region would support one big mill and steady employment for years to come
Having spent near half my life in the Prince George , Mackenzie and northern area. Our company spent much time working in the area on forestry related projects And I might add for the finley mill Conifex bought itself
