TFSA and coal

If you are considering where to invest your TFSA contribution for 2024 , Then I believe Vermilion deserves your serious attention.
The reason is quite simple ; The world is still consuming vast quantities of coal . That consumption rate has even been growing. Huge quantities of nat gas and LNG will be needed to make any kind of dent in coal combustion. VET will benefit based on the fact that there will be less LNG to compete with VET ' s
European production
Accordingly VET has esentially unlimited headroom to expand their production of European nat gas
With huge landholdings in Europe a very prospective future awaits the patient investor.

Chasing dividends is fruitless . As soon as the dividend becomes payable the value of the company declines by a similar amount.  Interestingly, however the true value of a company is based on the discounted value of all future dividends. Difficult for many to comprehend , however valid non the less . In other words , the value of the assets and their ability to generate profits which over ...more

Yes the value of the company declines by a similar amount but it is hardly fruitless. You instead get your fruit up front.  Just a different investment vehicle.   I doubt loops has any of either. His reports are sketchy at best. GLTA and Happy New Year

Yes , getting some of your funds back earlier is nice , but then you lose the future earnings that may have occurred if the money had remained in the company. There are also tax consequences for regular accounts. Overall , however , I do not believe that dividend yields should be a major reason for buying or selling a stock. Net assets and earnings are much more important in my esteem and that is ...more

I agree that VET should outperform CJ on an ROI basis from this point in time and some might lose out on future earnings if they don't reinvest them back into the stock or perhaps in one that has a better ROI at that time.  You also keep that portion payed back to you safe from any future losses and ready to redeploy when and if the time is right. Tax treatments are moot as you are ...more
