Confirmation the IEA is a political admin

A section from the a news article in oilprice:

"This has not made transition advocates happy. One of the most prominent of these, the International Energy Agency's head, Fatih Birol, has called repeatedly on the industry to go all in on the transition and start making plans to wind down oil and gas. This is happening as the IEA estimates that oil demand is going to hit a record this year and continue growing over the next few years as well. It then expects a peak around 2027, but many disagree."

The IEA is doing what it has always done.  What is your point? GLTA

Right, so clearly you can't figure out the point so here it is:  They are an administration charged mostly with providing timely, and hopefully accurate information as well as forecasting outlooks. I didn't think statistical type administrations weighed into political adgendas acting as cheerleaders to promote and accelerate the transition from oil and gas to renewables.

Ah I see.  So the reason I can't figure out your point is because it is wrong.  The IEA does indeed provide policy recommendations based on the data they supply and always have since inception.  In fact they are charged with  establishing international technical collaboration on innovation and research that promote energy savings and conservation. Again the main difference between now and since inception is that while they have always provided collaboration on innovation, (clearly not the main go to source for that) which the O&G sector has adopted when feasible to reduce costs, gain efficiencies and increase net returns; the Agency is now politically biased, tilted towards faze out of oil. That has always been their mandate? Really ...more

Conservation.  Even though it comes at the end of their mandate, it was probably one of the most important criteria given that they were established during the first energy crisis when most nations, scientists and even oil producers believed that the world was running out of oil.  We in fact are,  just not as fast as preciously believed due to innovations in recovery techniques ...more

Right, everyone understands the concept of conservation, via efficiency gains, doing more will less and using alternatives when they become viable... But the transition away from fossil fuels isn't about conservation - it's about climate change ideology and alarmism. A lot can be said about why that is happening on a political front and the questionable science that supports the climate ...more

The fact that the IEA is a "political mouthpiece certain governments and movements" is widely known and you are right to not take credit for it for that reason.  Whether or not certain O&G analysts or the oil industry regard is as such is moot.  It is and was political and always has been.  It was formed by member countries and represented by their governments as all ...more

Right, sure there Quinte settle down now, it's quite clear to all you "drank the Kool aid"

LOL.  Why?  Because I'm right?  You keep beating the bushes for snypes and I'll sit by the fire and keep warm. GLTA

Quinte, I'm not sure what you think you are right about -- you haven't proven anything?? - traders and analysts say the EIA is "now a political administration", as in now -- and not "always been" and that is ok, I point it out in a news story clearly demonstrating that they are now and you have a bit of a issue and somehow you are right about what? Hope you are ...more

You are confusing the IEA with the EIA as I have suspected all along.  The IEA is a political administration and always has been.   You saying that "traders and analysts say"  does not make it so,  You don't speak for them. You can't even consistantly speak for yourself.  Is it the IEA or the EIA?  They are different and you have now quoted ...more
