Santo Domingo, Chile.  80% Copper Tax proposal.   No way it passes, but location is being considered more widely now, and Chile, once considered the "copper" standard for geopolitical risk outside of North America and Australia, is being re-rated for risk factor. Chile, Peru, ultimately will impact the way people feel about Mexico as well, and I'm guessing has a few ...more

Interesting take thanks for responding! Looks to me though like it's being held down... could be a financing for their other projects..although maybe your right in that it could be some funds  getting nervous and selling their position...i.e taking profits.....whatever it is hopefully short term~

It's 75% isn't it .. for copper over $4 .. but this stuff has happened before . always been rejected in the upper houses (terminology?) .. ain't these countries seen what happened in Venezuela and learnt anything .. hey start a personality cult and destroy foreign investment .. good idea..  still you would expect some tax reform of some sort ..

Its heading into an election year for Chile - so anything is possible - Chileans see themselves without a government, crime is getting bad in Santiago and deputies are pushing for a third dispersement of the pension - so that being said anything is posible including this proposed new tax on copper.

capstone has a 15 year tax stability agreement that starts with production so it is good through 2039 or so. Same agreement that Teck has with their QB2 project. In my view it is unlikely chile will nullify these tax agreements.

TKO, HBM, FM all getting hammered worse than CS right now, after having a good morning. It's probably from the almost 20 cent drop in copper in the last few hours. I guess we nedded a little dip sooner or later.

My key watch is whether the old high, 4.61 cu, holds, or not along with cs.to's 20 day ema. CS had a huge day Friday and tends to tread water or drop the next day. Oh, Dickey, by the by, the Kitco cu price is spot and other prices are for the three month forward contract. The reason for price differences between sites. I add this in case you have not otherwise figured it out.
