Is the return of FCF just a ruse?

I am beginng to shake my head at all of these guys.  For a 10yr period the sector was uninvestable in my opinion.  Starting to think this time may be no different.

I jumped on board a bunch of these names over the last few years.  This time was going to be different and shareholders would get paid first.  Shareholders had all suffered enough, thank God I wasn't one of them.  I am not getting/seeing what I thought I signed up for.

I thought we were going to actually get the FCF.  Why not put billions into buying our shares instead of sinking it into the ground?  Why not hold off on the billions of capital investment to grow production until the share price up.  How about all the capital, other than stay flat, goes to share repurchase?  When the stock price is 40.00 or 60.00 then we can talk about growing our production.

That is what I thought I was getting.  Instead, it is business as usual.  Issue shares, drill baby drill and the common shareholders holds the bag AGAIN?

Slight of hand?  A ruse? Just a straight up fugazi?
