RE:What's happened to gold miners?Very interesting for sure m100. And I think longer term it will become an issue and I hope it does, for gold, and many other things, like for gas and electric guzzling cars for example. The contribution to energy wastage in cars and trucks is massive. And aviation, and about most of what humans do I would think.
But back to gold; mining for gold really is kind of dumb. It gets dug up, processed ,and stuck, mostly, in a vault that's often back underground.
I too wondered what has been up the past couple days with the gold mining companies, not so much gold itself. I think if funds were going to divest from gold companies for environmental reasons there would have been more talk already. With oil, which is a few billion more times impactful carbon wise, the funds talked and talked, and even now I don't know how many have divested, some I know, but there is still huge investment into oil, including by Canada, BC ,Alberta, and Sask. governments.
If a couple funds did decide to sell their GDX, that could have a impact , as quick sales do. But even short term I think it would just go back to normal, since they just sell once, until divesting becomes widespread. And in the meantime the gold companies should wake up. B2 Gold already powers a significant amount of it's big mine in Mali from a large solar collector installation. EDV has talked about doing something and I hope they have big plans to do the same. Use some of those hundreds of millions extra cash to go green. And in the longer term it makes total sense because the pay back on the investment in solar, over burning diesel, is pretty short. And where they mine in Africa , the sun shines alot.
